Carol Ainscow dies at 55

Carol Ainscow who was part of the revival of Manchester city centre has died from a brain tumour aged 55.

The founder of Artisan property developers, Carol helped to create the boom in city centre living, turning Canal Street into one of the most vibrant gay districts in Europe.

Together with Peter Dalton,Carol went on to create the once iconic Manto Bar in the early 90's.

As boss of Artisan, Carol built up a multi-million pound business which regenerated run-down buildings into flats in inner city areas in Manchester and beyond.

A friend Lynn Heathcote said she had died shortly before 7.30am this morning.

She had only recently been diagnosed with the tumour whilst on holiday.
