Box of Tricks 24-7 Theatre Festival
Ric Brady and Stephen M Hornby's new play 'The Box of Tricks', will be premiering at the 24:7 Theatre Festival from 18-25 July 2014 at New Century House in Manchester City Centre.
As one the leading showcases of new writing in the North, the festival attracts a lot of competition from across the region. Ric and Stephen worked with a mentor and developed the script over a number of months to get the final version that won them a place.
Ric and Stephen have been working together on gay stage and screen plays for the last two year’s. Their work to date has been well reviewed:
For The Last Session, "Damian McHugh and Richard Brady achieve a moving relationship in the latter’s The Last Session." – What's On Stage:
For To Russia With Love: Stage, "One Abstention by Stephen M Hornby...is an interesting piece of work."- thepublicreviews.com
For Loving Her, "This is very well written and reflects a turbulent period in recent gay history." - The British Theatre Guide
As Ric now lives in France, the two have written a together through Skype, a first for the 24:7 Theatre Festival. The backstory of the characters are all told in week long twitter stories, another innovation.
Amongst its talented cast is Judy Holt, who has appeared in 'Doctor Who', 'Coronation Street', 'Queer As Folk 2' and is now a regular on 'Scott & Bailey'.
'The Box of Tricks' is the emotionally intriguing and often hilarious story about a man coming to terms with his brother's death through the contents of a box.
Stephen said: 'The play is a really about the love between two brothers. One of them is bisexual and we’re explicit about that, but it’s not an issue between them. His sexuality is completed accepted.'
Ric said, 'We delighted to have this opportunity to showcase our work to a broad theatre going audience and hopefully bring along some of the people who have enjoyed our work to date.'
'The Box of Tricks' runs at New Century House, Manchester from 18-25 July 2014 as part of the tenth 24:7 Theatre Festival, which is supported by Arts Council England and Manchester City Council. Tickets are £8/£6.
