Beacon of Hope

Beacon of Hope

The friends of Sackville Gardens together with the Village Business Association, have successfully secured the funds to restore and maintain the BEACON OF HOPE in the gardens themselves.

This is,of course really good news.

The Friends of Sackville Gardens have been approved for a cash grant application to Manchester City Council,to carry out all the repairs to the Beacon which is fabulous.

As soon as the required paperwork is completed, then the work can begin.

It is proposed to dismantle the plinth and seat cladding at the base and put in new foundation.  All of the stonework is to be polished and graffiti removed and replaced once the foundations have been done.

Clean all of the existing mosaic tiles and replace missing ones.  Fix the light in the beacon.  Repair and replace the time line and bring it up to date.  Put lights around the base where it says Beacon of hope overlooking the canal.

The intention is to generally restore it, to its former glory.

This remains the only such memorial in the world.
