Banks for LGBT

The news this week, that Barclays have been ranked the best employer of LGBTers, north of the border, begs the question is the finance sector where we should be looking for future prospects?

The top four Scottish employers in Stonewall’s rankings this year are banks. Barclays took first place, followed by Lloyds Banking Group, Royal Bank of Scotland and Australian owned,Clydesdale Bank.

Stonewall’s Top 100 Employers 2012 ranks the best employers for lesbian, gay and bisexual staff, from which the seven top Scottish employers have been extracted.

Clydesdale Bank won Scottish Network Group of the Year.

Stonewall’s Workplace Equality Index is drawn up from a staff satisfaction survey of over 7,500 lesbian, gay and bisexual employees and other indicators.

Barclays rose from tenth place to third in the overall UK rankings this year, behind the Home Office and Ernst & Young and has now been named the top Scottish employer.

The Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service is named as the most improved Scottish employer.

Colin Macfarlane, Director of Stonewall Scotland said: “We’re delighted that seven Scottish organisations made the top 100 guide of best gay-friendly employers in Britain.

Certainly food for thought?

Additionally, many of the Banks have already formed LGBT groups within their organisations.

Barclays 'Spectrum',Co-operative's'Respect',RBS 'Rainbow' and Bank NY Mellon's 'Prism' are amoungst them'

It will be interesting to see what other sectors follow suit through 2012..
