Melba Moore at Band on the Wall
An evening at Band on the Wall to see Melba Moore, Melisa Morgan and Dj Mike Shaft, was always going to be a special one.
On arrival we were greeted with the music of of Dj legend, Mike Shaft. Many of his tunes took me back to my youth,as did his velvet voice which introduced each track.
His early set really got the evening going, creating a good vibe and feel. There was soul in the air.
He then introduced Ms Melisa Morgan.
I had completely forgtton just how fabulous a voice she has.Melissa got down to business quickly by belting out her hits like 'Do Me Baby' as we were reminded that the lyrics are lowdown and raw (you know what I mean people lol). She followed this with other hits like 'Fools Paradise'Her voice gave me goose pimples and she also dropped a bit of reggae acapella. At this point, she had us all on a great high.
Ending her own set,she then introduced her Aunt, Melba Moore.
Well, this lady certainly came on with some swagger,as she belted out her well known hits, opening with her best known song, the Van McCoy penned 'This is it' from 1976.Other stand out numbers included 'I Am His Lady' and 'It's Been So Long'. I couldn't believe this feisty lady is 67 and looks amazing for any age.By now Melba was taking no prisoners.Inbetween singing her hits, she was chatty and amusing, telling us about her impressive life in the business. All and all it was an epic, memorable night.A must see when they all come back again.
Band on the Wall continues to be the ideal venue for such performances with its 'easy'feel and always seems to attract a loyal and knowledgable crowd, who mingled effortlessly around the spaces.
After the show you had a chance to meet Melba and Melisa, purchase their cd's and have your picture taken. I did all this and had my cd's signed! Quite the groupie..
How can I describe the evening?Amazing and mind blowing.A Good night had by all!
